About the event

You are warmly invited to the SMIDGE Roundtable with journalists and media representatives, taking place on 20 November 2025 at 16:00, at Montoyer Street 31/2, Brussels.

Hosted by Inclusive Europe (INEU) in collaboration with De Montfort University (UK), this event brings together journalists, editors, freelance media professionals, media researchers, and civil society representatives working on media ethics, disinformation, coverage, and digital responsibility.

The roundtable will present key findings from SMIDGEthe first EU-funded research project focused specifically on how extremist and conspiratorial narratives affect the 45–65 age group online. This demographic, often ignored in public discourse, plays a powerful role in shaping online narratives and influencing intergenerational views.

SMIDGE’s unique perspective and findings have drawn international media attention from outlets such as The GuardianNikkei, and The Conversation, recognising its relevance in today’s complex media landscape.

Dr. Sara Wilford, a leading expert in online narratives and digital resilience at De Montfort University, will present the findings and engage in discussion on the responsibilities and challenges faced by the media.

Journalists attending will also have the opportunity to conduct short interviews with Dr. Wilford following the roundtable.

Participation is free, but given the limited number of seats prior registration is required.
